JJ Spaun Shocked the Golf World—and We Loved Every Minute of It
One player under par. Absolute chaos. Welcome to Oakmont.
JJ Spaun Shocked the Golf World—and We Loved Every Minute of It
If you tuned out during Sunday’s rain delay, you probably missed one of the most unexpected US Open finishes in years. After the delay, JJ Spaun came out dialed, finishing 3 under after the rain delay at Oakmont, the most brutal major test we’ve seen in a while.
This was a guy who, just a few months ago, lost in a playoff to Rory at The Players. And now? He’s hoisting the US Open trophy.
Only player to finish under par
Second career win
Now top 10 in OWGR
3rd in Ryder Cup Points Standings
5 top 6s this season
Spaun’s ball-striking looked automatic post-delay, and while others melted, he stayed ice cold.

Burns and Scott... Yikes
Let’s talk about the Sunday collapse.
Sam Burns: 78 (+8)
Adam Scott: 79 (+9)
It’s tough to watch. We’re fans of both guys—Burns has one of the smoothest swings out there and Scott’s putting has (mostly) returned—but Oakmont didn’t care. They started the day in clear front and absolutely blew it down the stretch.
Scottie Had His Chances
Scottie was right there. Tee to green? Dialed. But the putter just didn’t show up when it mattered. There was a solid 5 strokes he probably would like back on the green.
Still, T7 at a US Open is nothing to scoff at. It’s hard when we expect him to win week in week out.
Oakmont Delivered the Chaos
Only one player finished under par. It was dramatic. It was brutal. It was perfect.
Narrow fairways.
Lighting-fast greens.
Thick, nasty rough.
We’ve missed that classic US Open carnage, and Oakmont gave it to us in full.
About the course:
Private Country Club
Par 70
7,372 yards
longest Par 3 in US Open history (hole 8 - 301 yards)
We’re stoked for JJ Spaun. This win felt earned—gritty, composed, and honestly kind of epic. Keep an eye on him this summer.
Also… we’ve missed you. We know the newsletter’s been quiet the past couple months, but we’re back in action. Expect more trips, course breakdowns, and tour takes headed your way every week.
