The Caribbean’s Best-Kept Golf Secret
The Caribbean’s Top Course You’ve Never Heard Of
How often do you think of a golf trip? How often do you think of a beach vacation? Well, in this case, you can kind of think of both…
Summer is just about over. The weather is getting colder. The days are getting shorter. This, my friends, is a perfect time to plan a golf trip to that perfect destination.

Teeth of the Dog
If you’ve never heard of Teeth of the Dog, it’s time to get it on your radar. Located at Casa de Campo Resort in La Romana, Dominican Republic, this Pete Dye masterpiece is often ranked as one of the top golf courses in the Caribbean—and it’s also one of the most affordable for the experience you’ll get.
What makes it special? Seven of the holes are directly along the Caribbean Sea, offering breathtaking views and challenging winds. The nickname "Teeth of the Dog" comes from the jagged coral formations that line the course, which can be both beautiful and punishing. It’s a blend of beauty, precision, and challenge that you won’t find at many other courses in the region.
The Course:
18-Hole Par-72: The layout is a classic Pete Dye design with strategically placed bunkers, tricky greens, and constant trade winds that will test your game.
Signature Holes: Holes 5 through 8 and 15 through 17 play right along the ocean—prepare for a challenge as the wind off the water adds an extra layer of difficulty.

Cost Breakdown:
Lodging: Stay at Casa de Campo Resort with rates starting around $300 per night (luxury villas are available if you’re splurging!).
Green Fees: Around $300 for 18 holes. A bit on the higher end, but totally worth it for the oceanfront experience and Pete Dye design.
Food & Extras: Plan for $100-$150 a day for dining and drinks at the resort—there are several on-site restaurants with a variety of cuisines and price ranges.

Why It’s Cool:
World-Class Design: Pete Dye’s layout blends perfectly with the natural landscape, giving you an amazing mix of challenging holes and gorgeous views.
Stunning Oceanfront Holes: Seven holes play directly along the Caribbean—it's like golfing right on the beach.
Affordable Luxury: While some top-ranked courses can break the bank, Teeth of the Dog is a bit more budget-friendly, especially if you take advantage of package deals through Casa de Campo.
Resort Perks: When you're done on the course, you can enjoy Casa de Campo's luxury amenities, including private beaches, water sports, and world-class dining.
Best Time to Go:
Visit between December and April for the best weather, though the course is playable year-round thanks to the consistent tropical climate.
